US Krak Card Frequently Asked Questions

Last updated: 5 d’agost del 2026

This article covers spending, currency conversion, fees, refunds, disputes, declines and more for the Krak Card (United States).

Getting started

A Visa debit card that lets you spend cash and crypto from your Krak Everyday account balance, anywhere Visa is accepted — online, in-store and at ATMs.

You need a verified personal Krak account in the US.

Right now, the Krak Card is only available as a virtual card.

You can add your card to Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.

Using your card

Your card uses your Krak Everyday balance, based on your Spend Order, to convert the first available asset to your card's primary currency (USD). If the first asset doesn't fully cover the amount, we move down the list and combine funds from your next asset(s).

If crypto or a non-primary fiat currency is used, it is converted to your primary currency at the moment the transaction is authorized.

There are no transaction fees when you spend local currency with your card. If spending crypto or foreign fiat, Krak includes a variable spread in the price to sell the assets required to complete each transaction, which helps execute transactions quickly and reliably even during high volatility. View the rates applied in the transaction details screen.

A 1% Foreign Transaction (FX) Fee applies to purchases made outside the US or in a foreign currency. Foreign currency transactions are converted to USD using an exchange rate set by Visa.

Third-party ATM fees set by the operator may apply and are usually shown before you withdraw.

Yes. In the app you can set your Spend Order — drag and drop your currencies into the order you want — and block currencies you don't want used.

The Krak app offers 600+ assets across local fiat, foreign fiat, stablecoins and crypto. Some currencies may become unavailable for card transactions and will appear as Unavailable in your Spend Order.

Currency and conversion

USD for US clients. All transactions settle in your primary currency, even if you hold other currencies in your Krak account.

Your card is always denominated in your primary currency (USD). If you spend from a different balance, Krak converts it to your primary currency to settle. Krak includes a variable spread when selling foreign fiat or crypto if those assets are required.

Fees and limits

There are no annual, monthly or transaction fees, and no hidden charges. Fees that may apply when spending:

  • Variable spread: Krak includes a variable spread in the price to sell the assets required to complete each transaction when you spend foreign fiat or crypto.

  • ATM withdrawals: no Krak fee; third-party operators may charge.

  • Replacement: A replacement card fee may apply; see pricing.

  • Early cancellation: There is no early-cancellation fee that applies to the US card.

Daily, weekly and monthly limits apply to card spending and, where available, ATM withdrawals. Limits vary by region; view yours any time in the app. See the Card Management article for the published limit tables.

Refunds, disputes and declines

Because we convert your assets to your primary currency for each transaction, we return that primary currency to your Krak Everyday account. We don't convert it back to crypto automatically — you can manually convert it back any time in the app.

Yes. Go to your account settings, tap the option for support and you will see a dispute option. If your issue is with the goods or services (not the transaction), raise it with the merchant first. See the Disputes and Unauthorized Transactions article for timelines and, where applicable, provisional credit.

An offline spend, or a Spend Order including a currency with poor liquidity. Check your Spendable balance, which excludes blocked and unavailable assets.

Security verification. If a payment fails, insert your card and enter your PIN rather than using contactless or swipe. US contactless behavior follows Visa US contactless rules; no Krak-specific cap is set at launch.

Authorization holds. Some merchants (gas stations, hotels, car rentals, ATMs) place a temporary hold higher than the final amount. Make sure you have enough funds to cover it; holds usually release automatically.

Card features and controls

Yes, at ATMs that accept Visa. Your ATM limits are shown in the app. Third-party ATM fees may apply.

Check your Spendable balance in app — your Everyday balance minus blocked assets, holds and assets unavailable for card use. You can deposit at any time.

Yes — freeze, unfreeze or replace your card in the app. A replacement card fee may apply; the US fee and timing are confirmed at order. See pricing for fees. To cancel, contact Kraken Support and request card termination. Virtual and physical cards are managed separately and must be canceled individually.

2 virtual at a time. Physical is not available at the moment.

Security and verification

Yes. Complete the Krak verification process before ordering a card.

Yes. We use 3D Secure (3DS), instant freezing and real-time spending alerts to keep your card secure.

No. Your Krak Everyday balance is not a deposit account and is not insured by the FDIC. The card lets you spend your own balance; it does not work like a bank account and carries no deposit insurance.

Some clients may experience 3-day withdrawal holds on funds deposited using certain methods, including first-time instant purchases (debit/credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay), purchases via ACH Plaid, and PayPal deposits for EUR, GBP and USD.

Tax considerations

The IRS treats digital assets as property. When you fund a purchase with crypto, that crypto is converted to USD to settle the transaction, which is generally a taxable disposal. See the US Tax FAQs article for detail. We do not provide tax advice.

Krak debit card is issued by Lead Bank pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc. Krak is a financial technology company, not a bank. Account balances are not FDIC- or SIPC-insured. Digital assets converted to USD at purchase; values may fluctuate. Available to eligible U.S. residents only; not available in all states. See terms.

Variable spread may apply when spending, FX fees apply, and third-party fees may apply at ATMs. See Pricing for details.
